Yesterday we read a story called "The Gigantic Turnip". It seems an old man and an old woman, living as they were in a crooked cottage, found themselves in quite a predicament. In their cottage fall garden, at the end of the turnip row, sat a GIGANTIC turnip. Try as the might, they just couldn't get it out of the ground. Soon they employed all their pets (cows and pigs and cats and hens and canaries and so on) to help get that turnip out. Finally it was a little mouse that gave just the right amount of added strength to get the job done, teaching us that teamwork is important, not giving up is essential, AND that we can make a difference even when we think all we can add is just a LITTLE something.
{these were all ideas that the students came up with}

Today the students wrote some FABULOUS poems, that follow a simple {and fun} pattern of answering the questions: who?, what?, where?, when?, and why? Mrs. Green painted a gigantic turnip for the bulletin board, and we will be posting those fabulous poems there tomorrow.
